Competition is an important cog in any successful coaching programme and we include matchplay sessions each term to help players learn the rules and tactics of the game, gauge their progress and improve their British Tennis Ratings.

We also take a lead role in the organisation and running of larger competitions at Abergavenny Tennis Club for our members to put their skills to the test against each other (in closed events) and members of other clubs (in open events).

Junior Competition

Abergavenny Junior Open - Every Easter Holidays

This LTA grade 4 event is run in the 2nd week of the school holidays with events in all junior age-groups from Mini Red to 18&U. Players travel to this tournament from across South Wales and the South West and we get a chance to showcase our thriving club.

Abergavenny Tennis Club Road to Wimbledon - Every Whitsun Holidays

We run this annual 14&U tournament for boys and girls within our club, with the winners progressing to a regional event againt the winners from other South Wales Clubs. The winner of that event gets to compete against other County winners on the grass courts at SW19!

Abergavenny Tennis Club Junior Championships - Every Summer Holidays

This is the hightlight of the junior calendar for many members and is a week full of matches in a great social environment. Players are kept entertained off-court with games, Wii Tennis, Football etc and are fed and watered throughout the week with toasties and snacks for sale in the tuck shop.
